Windows XP remove Avira nag screen

Windows XP Home & Media Edition
  1. Boot into Safe Mode (tap F8 repeatedly after you restart your computer and select Safe Mode)
  2. Log into an account with Administrative privileges
  3. Click on Start and My Computer
  4. Navigate to c:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Desktop
  5. Right-Click on Avnotify.exe and select properties
  6. Select Security tab
  7. At the bottom of the page select Advanced
  8. Under the Permissions tab select SYSTEM (it will be one of the enters in the list)
  9. Select Edit
  10. Locate Travers Folder / Execute File select Deny
  11. Select ok, Select ok again and yes
  12. Reboot your computer
    Windows XP Pro
  1. Click Start and click Control Panel
  2. Click on Performance and Maintenance (if you don't see Performance and Maintenance, in the hand column select Switch to Category View)
  3. Click Administrative tools and click Local security policies
  4. Right-click on Software Restriction Polices and select Create new Policies
  5. On the right hand side, right-click additional rules and select new path rule
  6. Select Browse -> select My Computer and browse to c:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Desktop\ and double-click on avnotify.exe
  7. Under Security Level set to Disallowed
  8. Click ok

  1. Click on Start and My Computer
  2. Navigate to c:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Desktop
