Boot into Safe Mode (tap F8 repeatedly after you restart your computer and select Safe Mode)
Log into an account with Administrative privileges
Click on Start and My Computer
Navigate to c:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Desktop
Right-Click on Avnotify.exe and select properties
Select Security tab
At the bottom of the page select Advanced
Under the Permissions tab select SYSTEM (it will be one of the enters in the list)
Select Edit
Locate Travers Folder / Execute File select Deny
Select ok, Select ok again and yes
Reboot your computer

Windows XP Pro

Click Start and click Control Panel
Click on Performance and Maintenance (if you don't see Performance and Maintenance, in the hand column select Switch to Category View)
Click Administrative tools and click Local security policies
Right-click on Software Restriction Polices and select Create new Policies
On the right hand side, right-click additional rules and select new path rule
Select Browse -> select My Computer and browse to c:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Desktop\ and double-click on avnotify.exe
Under Security Level set to Disallowed
Click ok

Windows Vista Home

Click on Start and My Computer
Navigate to c:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Desktop
Right-Click on Avnotify.exe and select properties
